There is an interesting history to the Cambodia casinos that sit just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, in which casino betting is not permitted. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a relatively small space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime location, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a couple of controls constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; still, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 17:00, and even though visas are allegedly needed to cross, there are means around this, as is accurate of most borders.

The 1st Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge gambling hall, highlights 150 one armed bandits and 60 tables. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machines and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international vacation and hotel compound that features numerous amenities accompanying the gambling den, which provides 10,000 square feet of 130 one armed bandits and 88 table games.
