There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just over the border from nearby Thailand, where gambling den gaming is illegal. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a relatively tiny space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime destination, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; still, financial sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 1700, and although visas are supposedly needed to cross, there are methods around this, as is true of most borders.

The 1st Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored barge gambling den, features 150 slots and sixty gaming tables. The Naga river boat is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred one armed bandits and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and sixty six of the familiar gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international vacation and hotel building that features many conveniences accompanying the gambling den, which has ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machines and eighty eight table games.
