There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia casinos that lie just over the dividing line from nearby Thailand, in which casino gaming is not allowed. Eight gambling dens are established in a generally small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect spot, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of controls constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; still, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and even though visas are for all intents and purposes required to cross, there are ways around this, as is real of many border crossings.

The first Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary ship gambling den, features 150 one armed bandits and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling den is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long opened. A total of 150 slot machine games and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slots and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and 66 of the normal gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive resort and hotel building that features many amenities on top of the gambling den, which provides 10,000 square feet of 130 slot machines and eighty eight gaming tables.
